ADVENTURE: RETURN TO THE HOMELAND
Documentary / France (2016)
Marlyse, Jack, and Robert-Alain have returned to Cameroon. After years of wandering at Europe's borders, unsuccessfully trying to build a new life, they all took the opposite path. Weary of missed opportunities, the risks they faced, and the poverty, they made a rare decision among undocumented migrants: to return of their own free will, penniless; a return marked by shame.
If life on the road is a physical hardship, the return is a moral suffering.
Impossible to grasp. For the three characters in this film, the major difficulty lies in being accepted again within family or social circles unprepared to welcome someone who has returned after a failure.
How can we accept that the one on whom we've placed all our bets returns empty-handed?
